Troubleshooting your widgets

If you're experiencing that your dashboards, reports or widgets in general are slow to update, there are some things you can do to troubleshoot.

Data source import frequency

Plecto only updates widgets when it receives new data from a data source. Try checking in the settings of your data source, what frequency these updates are coming through to Plecto, and increase it, if the integration supports it.

You can find information on whether or not the integration supports it here: Plecto integrations.

If you still experience problems with widgets not updating correctly and not showing new data, consult the other options listed in this article.

Too much data on the same widget

Too many custom groups

When using a custom group by, be careful at the number of groups it will return. It's generally a bad idea to group by a field that has hundreds of unique values. This will very often make the widget very slow to update. Consider using a Timeline widget instead.

Too many teams or employees

If your widget is showing a lot of employees or filtering on hundreds of teams, please consider deleting or removing unused ones as they will make it difficult for Plecto to update the widget frequently.

Packed table widgets

Using a table widget with a lot of columns is discouraged. Besides it being hard to get an overview, tables with a lot of columns can be very slow to update because of the amount of data they handle. Consider splitting the information into smaller widgets or using the Reports feature.

Very long formula

A very long and complicated formula might have a big impact on the speed of updates. If you have a formula with over 50 lines, then it would be a good idea to consider restructuring your data so that you can write a shorter formula in Plecto.

Formula using the "Contains" filter

If you have a lot of data, some widgets might be slow to update because you're using the "contains" filter in your formula. If that happens, you can try to use a different filter, for example "is."
